Education & Community
Serving our community has been a top priority of the Louisville Orchestra since its founding in 1937. Our first conductor, Robert Whitney, believed that great musical experiences should begin at a young age. Creating an educational program called MakingMUSIC for school-aged children, Mr. Whitney began the Louisville Orchestra’s long history of inspiring young lives with music. Many years later, we continue our dedication to youth as we impact over 20,000 children each year. We have expanded our educational activities to include adult education and community engagement events, all in an effort to make orchestral music an extraordinary and integral part of daily life in our community.
The educational mission of the Louisville Orchestra is to educate, inspire and engage members of the community through interaction with musicians and concert experiences that enrich the enjoyment and understanding of symphonic music.
