Workshops and Curriculum
Each season, a new class of students embarks on a creative journey with HHN2L founders Nyree Clayton-Taylor and Antonio “T” Taylor, as well as local hip-hop artists, social justice educators, and musicians. Through a series of hands-on workshops, students dive into the art of lyric writing, rhythm, and performance, while learning how music can be a powerful tool for social change. Workshop topics include:
- Storytelling and Lyric Writing: Students learn to craft lyrics that reflect their personal experiences and perspectives on social issues.
- Rhythm and Flow: Hip-hop artists guide students through the techniques that give rap its distinctive rhythm and energy.
- Social Justice and Activism: Students explore themes of justice, community, and identity, discovering how music can amplify important social messages.
Hands-On Learning and Community Focus
LO Rap School is rooted in self-expression and community. Students work collaboratively to create, refine, and perform their pieces, building both musical and teamwork skills. As they write lyrics, develop rhythms, and practice performing, students are encouraged to express their individuality and speak on issues that matter to them. With support from mentors and peers, they gain the confidence to bring their ideas to the stage.
