They include background information on the composers, insights into the pieces being performed, historical context, themes, and sometimes personal stories that influenced the music. Occasionally, program notes are provided by guest conductors, guest artists, or even members of our own Louisville Orchestra Creators Corps. Program notes give audiences a richer experience by connecting them to the artistry and meaning behind the music, helping listeners appreciate each piece on a deeper level.
Many of our concerts feature program notes written by Aaron Grad, a renowned music historian and composer known for his engaging storytelling and deep knowledge of classical music.
