Concert Buddies

Our take on an unforgettable first concert experience

A program created for first-timers to receive a behind-the-scenes experience led by a current LO Creators Corps member.

What is Concert Buddies?

Make your first experience with the LO welcoming and fun!

Created in 2023 by LO Creators Corps composer Lisa Bielawa, this program invites you to enjoy a concert with a small, friendly group of 6-10 people, led by one of our talented Creators Corps composers. We take care of everything for you — including a ticket to the concert, a pre-show meal or snack, a post-concert drink, and even rides to and from the event if needed. Join us for an unforgettable and relaxed introduction to the LO!

Experience includes:

  1. Start your evening at the LO office with a meal and relaxed pre-concert conversation led by one of our Creators Corps composers.

  2. Next, we’ll walk as a group to The Kentucky Center, our venue for the Classics Series, where you’ll get the chance to meet an LO musician.

  3. When the concert begins, you and your fellow Buddies will enjoy the performance together in a specially reserved seating section in Whitney Hall.

  4. To end the night, join us at the Wild Swann in the Grady Hotel for post-concert drinks and engaging conversation.

Hear From Past Concert Buddies

A Magical Place

"The three of us were so grateful for the special experience of spending time with... contemporary composers and getting a peek into your professional lives.  Your everyday work environment is an unknown, magical place for us who are usually spectators and not participants."

A Powerful Example of Community Engagement

"Concert Buddies is a really special experience. Being able to connect with an orchestra of this caliber in this low-pressure, intimate way is extraordinary. The highlight of this experience was connecting with other people over a shared musical experience. And the fact that it's led by [an] LOCC composer makes the whole experience even sweeter. It's this really fascinating way to get into their mind, learning how they listen and what that listening means to them. The structure of the evening is both simple, but also filled with unintentional moments that make the experience very organic and engaging... Overall, this experience is a powerful example of community engagement done right."

Peek Behind the Creative Curtain

"I believe it is invaluable for our communities to have opportunities to build connections and peek behind the curtain to see what other creative people are doing and how their world works. Not only is it inspiring but gives people the idea that they could do it too! Whether we become involved in production or simply come to relax and enjoy the concerts, a sense of belonging to something bigger flourishes! I look forward to my new connections and personal stories I can share to support such a wonderfully creative and talented organization. I will be happily bringing my friends to future events because I felt so warmly welcomed. I'm excited to introduce them too!"
