What do you enjoy most about performing with the Louisville Orchestra?

Getting to play so much new and interesting music, alongside some of the greatest masterpieces written.

In what ways do you think the Louisville Orchestra can make the greatest impact on our community?

I love that we get to go into so many different neighborhoods and communities throughout the greater Louisville area and provide free performances for people of all ages, whether that be playing for young children at libraries, fourth and fifth graders at JCPS schools, or full orchestra performances at local community centers.

What is your favorite type of orchestral music to perform, and why?

I love playing music with really exciting finales because the audience’s response is electric.

Who is your favorite composer or musician?

That’s impossible to answer definitively, but I do love the music of John Adams and Steve Reich.

Do you have a Louisville Orchestra or event that is especially meaningful or memorable?

Premiering Sebastian Chang’s score for the 1922 silent film Nosferatu.

What are some things that inspire you as a musician?

Getting to play a diverse array of programs: one week it’s a movie, another a Beethoven symphony, yet another playing the music of Radiohead. I’m never bored and constantly reminded why this is what I wanted to do since I was a kid.

What do you love most about being part of the Louisville community?

It’s an incredibly small world. I have many connections to people who have connections to other people I know. And everyone is so nice and welcoming.

What’s something unique, surprising, fun, or interesting about you?

I’m REALLY good at the New York Times Crossword.

What are some of your hobbies outside the LO?

I’m a voracious reader; I love exploring the area on my bike; I’m on a bar trivia team that (usually) wins; and I watch all of the major Oscar nominees every year.

Favorite orchestral work?

It usually varies by what I’m currently playing because there’s so much good music out there, but a standout is Harmonielehre by John Adams.
