Role: Principal

Before joining the LO James was the associate principal trombone of the San Antonio Symphony. He has performed with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the San Fransisco Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the Nashville Symphony Orchestra, the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Sarasota Orchestra.

 

What do you enjoy most about performing with the Louisville Orchestra? 

I most enjoy the focus on excitement in this orchestra. Bright colors, engaging tempos, diverse repertoire.

In what ways do you think the Louisville Orchestra can make the greatest impact on our community?

The LO represents the best of the rich artistic culture in our wonderful city and state.

What is your favorite type of orchestral music to perform, and why?  

I most enjoy the gargantuan orchestral works, Mahler, Strauss, etc. These pieces bring the full palette of colors and voices.

Who is your favorite composer or musician?

Prokofiev

Do you have a Louisville Orchestra or event that is especially meaningful or memorable?

Mammoth Cave, the ingenuity of the piece combined with the location was magical.
