
Ryan McKinny, born on November 22, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, is an acclaimed American bass-baritone renowned for his compelling performances in opera and concert settings. He earned an Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance from The Juilliard School and currently resides in Asheville, North Carolina, with his wife, Tonya, and their two children.
Throughout his distinguished career, McKinny has graced prestigious stages worldwide, including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, and Paris Opera. His repertoire encompasses significant roles such as the title character in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” Escamillo in Bizet’s “Carmen,” and Amfortas in Wagner’s “Parsifal.”
In the 2024–25 season, McKinny is set to debut as Jan Nyman in Missy Mazzoli and Royce Vavrek’s “Breaking the Waves” at Houston Grand Opera. He will also portray the title role in Wagner’s “The Flying Dutchman” with both Des Moines Metro Opera and Ópera Nacional de Chile.
