Music Without Borders is a free concert series that brings the Louisville Orchestra directly into neighborhoods, removing barriers and inviting everyone to experience live music together.

Voices, Rhythm, and Culture celebrates how music expresses identity, history, and emotion across cultures. Led by conductor Kimcherie Lloyd, this program brings together bold rhythms, expressive melodies, and music inspired by dance and tradition, showing how sound connects people across time and place.

The concert features Evan Vicic on viola in music that highlights the instrument’s expressive voice, alongside vocalist La’Shelle Allen, whose performances and arrangements add a contemporary perspective rooted in tradition. With works by Kevin Day, Anthony Green, Beethoven, Coleridge-Taylor, Ruth Crawford Seeger, and Rimsky-Korsakov, the program offers a dynamic mix of styles and sounds that is engaging and approachable for first time listeners.

Registration is encouraged to receive event information and updates. Seating is general admission and available on a first come, first served basis.

What is Music Without Borders?

Music Without Borders brings the transformative power of music directly into our communities. These free concerts are designed to transcend cultural and economic barriers, providing access to world-class performances in three distinct Louisville neighborhoods: Jeffersontown, Portland, and Beechmont. By performing in diverse locations across the city, we aim to unite audiences through shared musical experiences, fostering a deeper sense of connection and understanding. Each program in the series features a thoughtfully curated selection of pieces that highlight the rich tapestry of global musical traditions, celebrating the universal language of music and its ability to bridge divides and bring people together.

If you're joining us for the first time, or a longstanding fan, Music Without Borders is the perfect concert series to attend!

Where will these concerts take place?

We're so glad you asked! Our Music Without Borders Series is designed to span across multiple nights, at different locations around town. This time around, we will be performing two nights in a row.

The first performance will take place on Thursday, March 26th at The West End School, located at 3628 Virginia Ave, Louisville, KY 40211.

The second performance will take palce on Friday, March 27th at Neighborhood House, located at 201 N 25th Street, Louisville, KY 40212.

Both concerts will start promptly at 7:30PM.

How much are tickets?

All concerts in this series are free, but do require a ticket. RSVP today and let us know you're coming!

What if I am late or need to leave early?

If you arrive after the concert has begun, just be courteous to those around you and find a seat at an appropriate time, such as during applause or intermission.

How long is the concert?

Concert length varies, but we recommend planning for about an hour and a half. Digital programs include the specific music run-time, which can give you a better idea of the concert length. Please note that music run-time only covers the pieces being performed and does not account for speaking between pieces, applause, etc.

What should I wear to the concert?

Come as yourself! There’s no dress code, so wear what makes you feel comfortable. You’ll see everything from business and cocktail attire to casual and creative styles.

Can I use my phone during the performance?

We ask all audience members to silence their phones before the performance begins. Photos and videos are prohibited, as light from screens can be distracting.
