Prior to joining the Louisville Orchestra, Mr. DiThomas held the position of 2nd Oboe and English Horn in the Philadelphia Ballet Orchestra and served one year as Acting Solo English Horn with the San Francisco Opera. Mr. DiThomas has performed with many other orchestras across the United States including the New York Philharmonic, New York City Ballet, and Richmond Symphony. He was the first-prize winner of the 2018 Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music’s annual undergraduate instrumental competition. Mr. DiThomas is a recipient of the prestigious Jerome L. Greene Fellowship providing him with a full scholarship to The Juilliard School where he received a Master’s Degree under the tutelage of Elaine Douvas. Prior to Juilliard, he received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music where he was a student of Mark Ostoich.
What do you enjoy most about performing with the Louisville Orchestra?
Getting to perform music for some of the most appreciative and supportive audiences.
In what ways do you think the Louisville Orchestra can make the greatest impact on our community?
We bring music from every possible genre to countless places throughout the city. I believe this connects us to the community in such a unique and genuine way.
What is your favorite type of orchestral music to perform, and why?
I love the Classics programs the most. Pieces from the Romantic era are my favorites. The drama, passion, and excitement is what made me fall in love with music.
Who is your favorite composer or musician?
My favorite composer is Tchaikovsky. My favorite musician is Elaine Douvas.
What are some things that inspire you as a musician?
Music can allow me to express myself in ways that words simply cannot. It can also make me feel the widest range of emotions. I believe that making music is the closest thing to magic. I love the idea of creating something from nothing and that creation having an effect on the world around me.
What do you love most about being part of the Louisville community?
The Louisville community feels like home.
What’s something unique, surprising, fun, or interesting about you?
I used to be a competitive swimmer prior to becoming a musician.
What are some of your hobbies outside the LO?
Walking, cooking, painting, spending time with family and my best friend, Finnley, the golden retriever.
