What do you enjoy most about performing with the Louisville Orchestra?
I have so much pride and joy performing with the Louisville Orchestra as it is truly an honor! I am so grateful to be a part of an institution that I truly love! I enjoy being a part of bringing high quality art and music through the varied programming, the unusual and creative projects, and the connection to not only the Louisville community but throughout the commonwealth is so enjoyable and fulfilling.
In what ways do you think the Louisville Orchestra can make the greatest impact on our community?
Our Making Music programs, Music without Borders, and our In Harmony Tours continues to touch our entire state and community. Continuing to bring quality performance to our community, many of whom may never venture into our concert hall, will make the greatest impact.
Do you have a Louisville Orchestra or event that is especially meaningful or memorable?
I have had so many meaningful and memorable performances it would be difficult to pick out which would be my favorite. Sometimes it is the amazing music and composers (large brass works such as the great Mahler and Bruckner symphonies. Most recently the Strauss Alpine Symphony with 40 extra players was a huge thrill!). Some fun memories are working with amazing guest artists of various genres and guest conductors such as John Williams, Yo Yo Ma, Julie Andrews, MTT, Yuja Wang. Yes, I even got a huge thrill out of working with rapper, Jack Harlow!
What are some things that inspire you as a musician?
I am always inspired by great art no matter the form it takes! I love great music, dance, visual arts, opera, dramatic art, poetry, etc! Other times, I am inspired by the simple quiet beauty and serene calmness of our property in Shelby County. I always try to bring authentic beauty of all kinds into my work as a musician.
What do you love most about being part of the Louisville community?
Louisville is a wonderful friendly community that has historically supported the arts in so many ways. Although my children are grown and married now, it was a great place to raise them and expose them to high quality education, sports, and artistic opportunities.
What are some of your hobbies outside the LO?
Outside of the LO I enjoy hanging out and traveling with my family, milling and baking whole grain bread (although recently I have ventured into sour dough baking as well lol) I also brew my own kombucha. I am obsessed with being out on the water as Stand Up Paddle Boarding is my passion.
