Jake Chabot was appointed 2nd flute of the Louisville Orchestra in 2018. Before moving to Louisville, Jake studied at The Juilliard School, where he received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in 2016 and 2018. He won his first orchestral position, 2nd flute with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, after finishing his Bachelor’s degree. Jake has been featured as a soloist with the Louisville Orchestra on Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto #4, Lisa Bielawa’s Fictional Migrations, and on the penny whistle for Jay Chattaway’s The Inner Light. An avid orchestral player, Jake has been engaged as a substitute with multiple orchestras, including the New York City Ballet Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, New World Symphony, Lexington Philharmonic, and Owensboro Symphony. Jake is enormously grateful for the influence of his teachers, including Jeffrey Khaner, Carol Wincenc, and Irene Pruzan.
What do you enjoy most about performing with the Louisville Orchestra?
What I most enjoy about performing with the Louisville Orchestra is the satisfaction that comes at the end of a performance shared with great musical colleagues and an enthusiastic audience.
In what ways do you think the Louisville Orchestra can make the greatest impact on our community?
The arts play a vital role in the health and wellness of a community, and I’m proud that the Louisville Orchestra is a flagship institution in a vibrant arts culture.
Do you have a Louisville Orchestra or event that is especially meaningful or memorable?
My most memorable moment onstage is performing as a penny whistle soloist on Jay Chattaway’s The Inner Light for our Star Trek concert. I had so much fun learning a new instrument and playing a gorgeous piece that was written to essentially be a folk song created by an alien civilization.
What are some of your hobbies outside the LO?
Outside of the LO, I enjoy cooking, exercising, and taking care of my dog, Joni, a sweet and feisty chihuahua/rat-terrier mix.
Favorite orchestral work?
My favorite orchestral work is Four Last Songs by Richard Strauss, especially with Jessye Norman or Renée Fleming singing.
What's on your playlist (what song are you currently into)?
My favorite artists to listen to include Elliott Smith, Radiohead, Björk, Joni Mitchell, Sufjan Stevens, Nick Drake, Fiona Apple, Adrianne Lenker, and Stephen Sondheim.
