This concert reimagines one of the most recognizable works in American music through a completely new lens. Led by Teddy Abrams, Rhapsody Reimagined transforms George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue into a vibrant, rhythm-driven experience shaped by Latin Jazz and Cuban traditions.
Cuban Pianist Ahmed Alom brings his own creative voice to the work, reworking the piano with open, improvisatory cadenzas, virtuosic ornamentation, and an expanded percussive sound world. Drawing on Latin jazz, Afro-Cuban rhythms, and spontaneous musical exchange, this version pushes the piece beyond its familiar contours while preserving its unmistakable spirit.
This performance invites audiences to hear Rhapsody in Blue as something newly alive, shaped by rhythm, spontaneity, and collaboration. With space for improvisation and a heightened rhythmic drive, the piece unfolds differently in the moment, revealing how dramatically a familiar work can change when reimagined live.

At most of our venues, if you arrive after the concert has begun, an usher will seat you at an appropriate time, such as during applause or intermission. At the Kentucky Center, monitors located in the lobby allow you to follow the performance while you wait.
Concert length varies, but we recommend planning for about two hours. Digital programs include the specific music run-time, which can give you a better idea of the concert length. Please note that music run-time only covers the pieces being performed and does not account for speaking between pieces, applause, etc.
At The Kentucky Center, Old Forester Paristown Hall, and The Louisville Palace, you will go through security checkpoints upon entry.
